How to Edit the PowerPoint for the ground and first-floor screens.
You will be editing the default.ppsx file, you cannot directly open the file (it will open in show mode). Instead, you need to open the PowerPoint then open default.ppsx where you can then edit the slides.
The editable file is located on pptstore in a shared folder called com
Please choose Windows or Mac.
From Windows, Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2016. The first thing to do is Map the network share
- Open Computer → click Map network drive
- Select your desirable Drive Letter
- In the Folder type \\pptstore.dcs.shef.ac.uk\powerpoints\com
- Optional: Leave or untick Reconnect at logon
- Tick Connect using different credentials
- Click Finish
- Login box appears, login with your DCS account and password. e.g comsciad\dcsaccountname (if the account is enabled to access this directory)
- Optional: to remember the password or not
- Click OK
Secondly, use PowerPoint
- Open Powerpoint 2016
- Open Other Presentations (otherwise opening it again, will appear in Recent)
- Click Browse
- Locate the drive letter you selected to map the share and double-click to open it
- Select Default.ppsx and click Open
From Macintosh, Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2016
- First thing to do is connect to the file share
- Go > Connect to Server
- type smb://pptstore.dcs.shef.ac.uk/powerpoints/com click Connect
- Login box will appear
- Type in your dcsaccount and password (if the account is enabled to access this directory)
- Optional: Remember this password in my keychain
- Click Connect You are now connected
Secondly, use PowerPoint
- Open Microsoft Powerpoint
- Click Open → On my Mac
- Under Shared find and click pptstore
- then click default.ppsx
- Editing default.ppsx
Please remember to add a timer of default 12seconds to new slides, Otherwise, the show will stop and not move to the next slide.
When you have finished editing the slides, just close PowerPoint, and save the file by overwriting it.
When will the screens use the new slides? The machines will use new slides from the next day (8 AM)
