This is an old revision of the document!

All the printers in the department are run by ITS.

If you are using a Managed or Yoyo Windows computer, it will automatically have the printing set up, already: look for UoS-mono and UoS-colour.

If you're using unamanged Windows or Mac, go to https://www.shef.ac.uk/it-services/msp for instructions on how to set it up on your computer.

For Linux, don't use the IT Services instructions, as they don't quite work as expected. Follow these instructions instead:

There is a script provided by DCS for easily setting up the MSP printing on an Ubuntu Linux PC.

* Open a Terminal window, and run this command to download the script:

wget http://deptwww.dcs.shef.ac.uk/stuff/msp/msp-setup-dcs.sh

* Make it executable

chmod +x msp-setup-dcs.sh

* Run it with sudo, entering your CICS username when prompted.

sudo ./msp-setup-dcs.sh

That's all. You will see 2 printers, UoS-mono and UoS-colour appearing in your list of printers. When you've sent a job to the UoS print queue you can take your Ucard to the nearest MSP printer, swipe in, and print off your jobs.

Oh yes, and if you're inheriting the computer you're on from someone else, and the MSP printers seem to be already installed, you have to run this setup script again because the printers will probably be set to use the previous owner's username.
