Virtual personal server (Linux)

We recommend that staff requiring their own virtual server contact ITS who can provide virtual servers on their infrastructure, at no cost as long as the server is going to be used for University of Sheffield business. They are also able to arrange personalised domain names (you will be charged an annual registration fee for domain names other than 'shef.ac.uk').

See https://staff.sheffield.ac.uk/it-services/storage/virtual-servers

The requestor of the VM will be given an administrator account which will grant them sudo (root) access on the host. They should also request that the COM Sysadmins (Mark Ellerby/ac1mde and Chris Stoddart/ac1cps) be given administrator accounts so that they can assist with the setup and ongoing admin of the server.
